Powerful DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Texans, and a B- to prove it. Nobody else had Myles Cole anywhere near pick No. 127. The Texans did, by 70 spots, and that gap is the whole story. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They banked enough surplus on Amegadjie to cover a lot of smaller sins. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Job largely done: running back settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick42
Rnd2
Cooper DeJean
Cooper DeJean is a better player than pick No. 42 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick59
Rnd2
Roman Wilson
Roman Wilson at slot 59 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick86
Rnd3
Kiran Amegadjie
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 86th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
Pick123
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
They took Isaac Guerendo at par in the 123rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick127
Rnd4
Myles Cole
Myles Cole in No. 127 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick188
Rnd6
Ty'Ron Hopper
They did well to land Ty'Ron Hopper in pick 188, just ahead of his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick247
Rnd7
Tyler Owens
They liked Tyler Owens enough to skip the value, taking him in the 247th pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
