Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
B+
ValueB
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureB
The Commanders won the night they stopped Tuten from sliding. Grade: B+. The Commanders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Bhayshul Tuten fell into Round 6, Pick 29.
They will need Crenshaw-Dickson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick48
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
A tidy little value on Jihaad Campbell in the 48th overall pick, a step better than break-even. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick61
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
A straight-up fair deal on Jayden Higgins at pick No. 61, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick94
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson in slot 94 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick98
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
Value with a capital V on Andrew Mukuba in the 98th pick, a genuine coup. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick128
Rnd4
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander in pick 128 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick151
Rnd5
Ty Robinson
Ty Robinson at the Round 5 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick179
Rnd6
Dorian Strong
They read the board right and Dorian Strong was the payoff at No. 179. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick205
Rnd6
Bhayshul Tuten
Somehow Bhayshul Tuten was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 29, and they pounced on premier running back value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick224
Rnd7
Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II in pick 224 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick231
Rnd7
Jonas Sanker
Jonas Sanker in the 231st overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick236
Rnd7
John Williams
John Williams at Round 7, Pick 20 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick248
Rnd7
Kaden Prather
A premium they did not need to pay, Kaden Prather a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick253
Rnd7
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
A wild overpay on Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson in the 253rd pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
