McLaughlin should have been long gone. The Browns pounced, and earned a B.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Seth McLaughlin got past him. The Browns do not have to explain a thing at Round 6, Pick 40. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In No. 2 they get a bendy edge with upside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
Nice patience on Kenneth Grant, who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick67 Rnd3 Nick Emmanwori
A safety of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 3 is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick94 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
Circle this one: Quinshon Judkins at the 94th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick104 Rnd4 Jalen Milroe
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jalen Milroe at pick No. 104 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick179 Rnd6 Tyler Shough
They will replay Tyler Shough at pick 179 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick192 Rnd6 Jack Nelson
Somehow Jack Nelson was still sitting there in slot 192, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick200 Rnd6 Bhayshul Tuten
Bhayshul Tuten in the 200th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick216 Rnd6 Seth McLaughlin
Taking Seth McLaughlin in the 216th pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick254 Rnd7 Torricelli Simpkins III
Torricelli Simpkins III in the Round 7 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
