Draft Grade — Chiefs

FutureA
The Chiefs won the night they stopped Gadsden II from sliding. Grade: A-. The board owed the Chiefs one, and it paid up: Oronde Gadsden II, the No. 193 name on the board, sitting there at Round 7, Pick 41 like a gift left on the doorstep. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Mike Gesicki deal gives the class an established piece to lean on. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
In the end it comes back to Walter Nolen, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In the 31st overall pick they get a load in the middle, outstanding value to boot.
Pick63
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori at Round 2, Pick 31 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick95
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins in slot 95 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick133
Rnd4
Anthony Belton
Circle this one: Anthony Belton at pick No. 133 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick226
Rnd7
CJ West
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like CJ West reach pick 226 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick251
Rnd7
Tahj Brooks
They barely believed it either: Tahj Brooks still on the board at the 251st pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick257
Rnd7
Oronde Gadsden II
The board fumbled Oronde Gadsden II all the way to No. 257, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
