Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesA FutureC
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Steelers.

The war room fell hard for Trevin Wallace, and it showed at pick 195: 38 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Polk. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. With quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on offensive lineman is the choice that costs them.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Taliese Fuaga
In the 20th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line. Need was not the driver here.
Pick39 Rnd2 Sedrick Van Pran
A curious use of pick 39. Quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; an offensive lineman in Sedrick Van Pran did not.
Pick53 Rnd2 Mike Sainristil
They reached into another round for Mike Sainristil, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick98 Rnd3 Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk at Round 3, Pick 35 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick119 Rnd4 Cam Hart
The board fumbled Cam Hart all the way to No. 119, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick120 Rnd4 Brenden Rice
Taking Brenden Rice in slot 120 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick161 Rnd5 Ainias Smith
Somehow Ainias Smith was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick178 Rnd6 Sione Vaki
Circle this one: Sione Vaki at slot 178 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick195 Rnd6 Trevin Wallace
A real head-scratcher, Trevin Wallace in the 195th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
