Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall C+
ValueC NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The Steelers did enough to get by: C+.

The Steelers did not so much draft Gabe Hall as overpay for him, 44 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. A weekend of give and take that grades a C+.

It is not that Fisher is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In No. 20 they get a cornerstone up front, reach and all. More want than need.
Pick51 Rnd2 Braden Fiske
Braden Fiske at slot 51 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick84 Rnd3 Blake Fisher
A want over a need in pick No. 84: Blake Fisher adds an offensive lineman while quarterback, safety and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick98 Rnd3 Cam Hart
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cam Hart. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick119 Rnd4 Luke McCaffrey
They reached into another round for Luke McCaffrey, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick178 Rnd6 Gabe Hall
Gabe Hall at the 178th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick195 Rnd6 M.J. Devonshire
Fair-plus on M.J. Devonshire, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
