The Commanders won the night they stopped Mafah from sliding. Grade: B. The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Phil Mafah, pick 251, roughly 23 picks past where he belonged.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick Analysis
Pick42
Rnd2
James Pearce Jr.
James Pearce Jr. in pick 42 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick63
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins in the 63rd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick66
Rnd3
Wyatt Milum
Wyatt Milum in the Round 3 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick84
Rnd3
Danny Stutsman
They took Danny Stutsman at par in pick No. 84, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick95
Rnd3
Kevin Winston Jr.
No edge and no loss on Kevin Winston Jr. in the 95th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick133
Rnd4
Dorian Strong
Dorian Strong in No. 133 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick205
Rnd6
Tahj Brooks
A tidy little value on Tahj Brooks in slot 205, a step better than break-even. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick226
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at Round 7, Pick 10 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick245
Rnd7
Robert Longerbeam
Robert Longerbeam in pick 245 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick251
Rnd7
Phil Mafah
They robbed the room for Phil Mafah here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
