The real work happened on the phones. The Giants fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.

They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. They banked enough surplus on Williams to cover a lot of smaller sins.

The Giants clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. Safety is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
