Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Patriots a B+.

The Patriots spent real capital to be 110 picks early on Jamaree Caldwell, and the board is going to hold them to it. The bottom line is a respectable B+.

They banked enough surplus on Mondon Jr. to cover a lot of smaller sins. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

The veteran additions, DK Metcalf chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Shemar Stewart
In the 14th pick they get a premier pass rusher, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Isaiah Bond
The board had cheaper options than Isaiah Bond at pick 38, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick45 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
A tight end of that caliber at pick No. 45 is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick69 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo at Round 3, Pick 5 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick77 Rnd3 Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick105 Rnd4 Xavier Watts
Steal is underselling it; Xavier Watts at the 105th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick137 Rnd4 Darius Alexander
Good price on Darius Alexander in slot 137, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick176 Rnd5 Devin Neal
They will replay Devin Neal at the 176th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Pick178 Rnd5 Cobee Bryant
A reach for Cobee Bryant in pick No. 178; a little patience would have been rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick185 Rnd6 Carson Schwesinger
Somehow Carson Schwesinger was still sitting there in the 185th pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick205 Rnd6 Luke Lachey
A clean, defensible pick in Round 6, Pick 27 with a little surplus value in Luke Lachey. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick213 Rnd6 Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. in pick 213 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick222 Rnd7 Jamaree Caldwell
Jamaree Caldwell in No. 222 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick240 Rnd7 Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
