ryandiesel3410 DRAFTING FOR THEPackers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Packers: B-. Of all the ways to open, the Packers chose the head-scratcher, spending pick No. 125 on Tommy Eichenberg with quarterback, wide receiver and other spots still wide open. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. If Allen pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
They banked enough surplus on Fautanu to cover a lot of smaller sins.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Kamari Lassiter
In pick 25 they get an island corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick41
Rnd2
Troy Fautanu
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Troy Fautanu at Round 2, Pick 9 is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick57
Rnd2
Calen Bullock
They let Calen Bullock come to them and pounced at the Round 2 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick88
Rnd3
Marist Liufau
No edge and no loss on Marist Liufau in No. 88; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick91
Rnd3
Gabriel Murphy
Gabriel Murphy at slot 91 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick125
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
A curious use of the 125th pick. Quarterback, wide receiver and other spots needed the pick; a linebacker in Tommy Eichenberg did not.
Pick135
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
They paid up for Braelon Allen at pick No. 135 when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick203
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
They did well to land Gabe Hall in the 203rd overall pick, just ahead of his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick217
Rnd6
Blake Watson
They paid sticker price for Blake Watson in pick 217, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick219
Rnd6
Darius Muasau
A tidy little value on Darius Muasau in pick No. 219, a step better than break-even. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick246
Rnd7
Demani Richardson
A tidy bit of business in the 246th pick, where Demani Richardson graded well above the range. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
