Draft Grade — Texans
Overall C+
ValueB- NeedB TradesC+ FutureD
A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The Texans get a C+.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Texans would have aced it. Ty'Ron Hopper at pick No. 127 is 54 spots clear of where he belonged. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Spending an early pick on cornerback with quarterback and tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. However the rest shakes out, Worthy at that price is a win they earned.

Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Hit on Jared Verse and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In slot 23 they get a premier pass rusher, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick24 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a problem off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick59 Rnd2 Mike Sainristil
They did well to land Mike Sainristil in pick 59, just ahead of his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick86 Rnd3 Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy in the 86th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick87 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
They talked themselves into Leonard Taylor III at the Round 3 slot, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick123 Rnd4 Nehemiah Pritchett
A curious use of No. 123. Quarterback and tight end needed the pick; a cornerback in Nehemiah Pritchett did not.
Pick127 Rnd4 Ty'Ron Hopper
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ty'Ron Hopper in the 127th overall pick, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
Pick224 Rnd7 Tyler Owens
A wild overpay on Tyler Owens in slot 224, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick238 Rnd7 Blake Watson
They reached a country mile for Blake Watson at the 238th pick, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick247 Rnd7 Tylan Grable
Tylan Grable in pick 247 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
