The Patriots did not so much draft Malik Verdon as overpay for him, 103 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The Pearce Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
