The Patriots got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D.

Nobody else had Brady Cook anywhere near pick 216. The Patriots did, by 73 spots, and that gap is the whole story. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

The Williams pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman. That Emmanwori pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
