Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueC NeedB- TradesA FutureA-
Nobody dealt better than the Patriots this weekend: B.

Nobody had Brady Cook this high, and it is not close. The Patriots reached 97 spots to get him at the 192nd overall pick. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. With safety unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them.

They banked enough surplus on Egbuka to cover a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick38 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker slipping to Round 2, Pick 6 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick45 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka at the Round 2 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick54 Rnd2 Ozzy Trapilo
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ozzy Trapilo well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
Pick64 Rnd2 Maxwell Hairston
No edge and no loss on Maxwell Hairston in pick No. 64; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jordan Burch
A real head-scratcher, Jordan Burch in pick 69 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick77 Rnd3 Anthony Belton
A big swing on Anthony Belton at the 77th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick81 Rnd3 Nohl Williams
A surprising call. With safety still to address, they spent the 81st overall pick on Nohl Williams, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick87 Rnd3 Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander at pick 87 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick104 Rnd4 Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams at pick No. 104 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick106 Rnd4 RJ Harvey
RJ Harvey at the 106th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick119 Rnd4 Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier at Round 4, Pick 17 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick144 Rnd5 Kain Medrano
They reached into another round for Kain Medrano, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick171 Rnd5 Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II at slot 171 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick179 Rnd6 Mac McWilliams
They left a pile of value on the table to take Mac McWilliams this early at the Round 6 slot. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick192 Rnd6 Brady Cook
Brady Cook in No. 192 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick220 Rnd7 Nick Martin
Nick Martin at the 220th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick238 Rnd7 Bilhal Kone
They took Bilhal Kone at par in the 238th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
