The steal of the weekend belongs to the Steelers and Marks: B-. You could see the war room lean forward. Woody Marks at pick No. 232 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The cost of the Kiser reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Will Johnson
Will Johnson at the 22nd pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick51
Rnd2
TreVeyon Henderson
They paid sticker price for TreVeyon Henderson in slot 51, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick83
Rnd3
Jalen Milroe
A reach on Jalen Milroe in Round 3, Pick 19; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick86
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba at pick No. 86 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick122
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
Good price on Joshua Farmer in the Round 4 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick123
Rnd4
Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams at No. 123 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick156
Rnd5
Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser at pick 156 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick185
Rnd6
Chase Lundt
Chase Lundt at the 185th overall pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick189
Rnd6
Tyler Cooper
They paid up for Tyler Cooper at the 189th pick when waiting would have done the job. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick229
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
Cam Jackson at slot 229 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick232
Rnd7
Woody Marks
Taking Woody Marks in pick No. 232 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
