Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Cowboys finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D.

The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for Maraad Watson, 66 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. It grades a D, and the process earned it.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Whatever Arch Manning becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Alexander.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Cam Coleman
In the 9th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick13 Rnd1 Arch Manning
In pick No. 13 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick27 Rnd1 Will Heldt
In pick 27 they get juice off the edge, though the board says they badly overpaid. Need was not the driver here.
Pick34 Rnd2 Trey'Dez Green
Trey'Dez Green in Round 2, Pick 2 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick46 Rnd2 Jelani McDonald
A straight-up fair deal on Jelani McDonald at slot 46, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick63 Rnd2 Kelley Jones
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kelley Jones at the Round 2 slot is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick66 Rnd3 Mark Fletcher Jr.
Mark Fletcher Jr. in the 66th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick72 Rnd3 Devan Thompkins
No edge and no loss on Devan Thompkins in the 72nd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick82 Rnd3 Ben Roberts
Ben Roberts at Round 3, Pick 18 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick103 Rnd4 Bear Alexander
Bear Alexander in slot 103 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick118 Rnd4 Elijah Paige
A real head-scratcher, Elijah Paige in pick No. 118 is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick124 Rnd4 Trey White
Trey White at pick 124 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick190 Rnd6 Maraad Watson
Maraad Watson in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
