Draft Grade — Cowboys

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Cowboys and Moss: D.

Somebody in No. 173 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Miller Moss, the No. 90 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. Every board in the league had Ott lower, and that gap is the story.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 Tre Harris
In No. 16 they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Nic Scourton
Nic Scourton at pick No. 38 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick59 Rnd2 Emery Jones Jr.
A reach on Emery Jones Jr. in the Round 2 slot; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick78 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
They took Quinshon Judkins at par in the 78th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick90 Rnd3 Danny Stutsman
A reasonable price with a little left over, Danny Stutsman in Round 3, Pick 26. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick117 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. in slot 117 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick153 Rnd5 Nic Anderson
Nic Anderson in the 153rd pick is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick169 Rnd5 Logan Brown
A straight-up fair deal on Logan Brown at pick 169, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick170 Rnd5 Elijah Roberts
They reached into another round for Elijah Roberts, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jaydn Ott
They talked themselves into Jaydn Ott at No. 171, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick173 Rnd5 Miller Moss
Somehow Miller Moss was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
