Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall C-
ValueB+ NeedB- TradesF FutureB-
The Cowboys let Styles fall into their laps, and walked away with a C-.

Somebody in slot 77 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Sonny Styles, the No. 49 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. It is not that Banks is a bad player; it is that the Cowboys had louder needs to answer first. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback.

Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Hit on Keldric Faulk and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Keldric Faulk
In the 15th pick they get a bendy edge with upside at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick31 Rnd1 Caleb Banks
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the Round 1 slot on Caleb Banks with cornerback, tight end and other spots unsolved.
Pick47 Rnd2 Isaiah World
A reasonable price with a little left over, Isaiah World in No. 47. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick77 Rnd3 Sonny Styles
Somehow Sonny Styles was still sitting there in pick 77, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick115 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
Jalon Kilgore in Round 4, Pick 15 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick155 Rnd5 Nico Iamaleava
Nico Iamaleava at pick No. 155 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick176 Rnd5 CJ Daniels
CJ Daniels in the 176th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick179 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa in slot 179 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick221 Rnd7 Makhi Hughes
Taking Makhi Hughes in the 221st pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick233 Rnd7 Malik Hartford
They let Malik Hartford come to them and pounced at Round 7, Pick 18. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
