Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureB
The Cowboys cashed the board's mistake on Weigman: D.

You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cowboys took Shilo Sanders at the 170th pick, roughly 45 spots before his name belonged.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Weigman falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Spending an early pick on edge rusher with tight end and interior defensive lineman open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Luther Burden III
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick44 Rnd2 Josh Conerly Jr.
They took Josh Conerly Jr. at par in No. 44, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick55 Rnd2 Mykel Williams
The board had Mykel Williams higher than pick 55, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick65 Rnd3 Carson Beck
Carson Beck at the 65th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick77 Rnd3 Ollie Gordon II
No drama and no debate, Ollie Gordon II went about where he belonged in No. 77. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick102 Rnd4 Danny Stutsman
A slide stopped in the 102nd pick, with Danny Stutsman worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick113 Rnd4 Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius at the Round 4 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick122 Rnd4 Jordan Burch
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went edge rusher with Jordan Burch while clear needs at tight end and interior defensive lineman sat open.
Pick151 Rnd5 J.Michael Sturdivant
A reasonable price with a little left over, J.Michael Sturdivant in Round 5, Pick 13. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick169 Rnd5 Shemar Turner
The board had cheaper options than Shemar Turner at slot 169, and it noticed. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick170 Rnd5 Shilo Sanders
Value said wait; Shilo Sanders in pick 170 says they were not listening. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick172 Rnd5 Dasan McCullough
Dasan McCullough at the 172nd overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick188 Rnd6 Conner Weigman
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Conner Weigman in pick 188, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick209 Rnd6 Davison Igbinosun
Circle this one: Davison Igbinosun at slot 209 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
