Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Cowboys to a D-.

The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for LT Overton, 83 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.

The Barron pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.

It is not that Overton is a bad player; it is that the Cowboys had louder needs to answer first. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Wyatt Milum
In No. 8 they get an anchor for the offensive line. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick13 Rnd1 Tre Harris
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35 Rnd2 Will Campbell
The board had Will Campbell higher than the 35th overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick39 Rnd2 Carson Beck
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Carson Beck well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick44 Rnd2 Luther Burden III
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Luther Burden III in slot 44. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick65 Rnd3 Dani Dennis-Sutton
Dani Dennis-Sutton in pick No. 65 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick77 Rnd3 Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant slid further than he should have, and No. 77 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick91 Rnd3 Jahdae Barron
Steal is underselling it; Jahdae Barron at pick 91 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick95 Rnd3 LT Overton
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, LT Overton adds an edge rusher and leaves tight end untouched.
Pick102 Rnd4 Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman at the 102nd overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick106 Rnd4 Alfred Collins
A slide stopped in the 106th pick, with Alfred Collins worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
Pick109 Rnd4 Nicholas Singleton
Nice patience on Nicholas Singleton, who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick113 Rnd4 Andrew Mukuba
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Andrew Mukuba while clear needs at tight end sat open.
Pick151 Rnd5 Antwane Wells Jr.
They talked themselves into Antwane Wells Jr. at Round 5, Pick 13, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick169 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
This one needs a full-page explanation: Davison Igbinosun in the Round 5 slot, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick170 Rnd5 Miller Moss
Miller Moss in the 170th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick172 Rnd5 Donovan Jackson
They did well to land Donovan Jackson in slot 172, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
