Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D+
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Cowboys found their guy under center in Sanders: D+.

The war room fell hard for Will Sheppard, and it showed at the 209th overall pick: 86 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. It grades a D+, and the process earned it.

The Skattebo pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The whole projection now runs through Shedeur Sanders; hit there and everything else looks smarter.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Shedeur Sanders
In pick 3 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick12 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
Fair-plus on Tetairoa McMillan, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick34 Rnd2 Luther Burden III
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Luther Burden III in Round 2, Pick 2. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick44 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant at the 44th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick65 Rnd3 Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius at the 65th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick76 Rnd3 Dani Dennis-Sutton
They left a pile of value on the table to take Dani Dennis-Sutton this early at the Round 3 slot. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick81 Rnd3 Kevin Winston Jr.
They liked Kevin Winston Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 81. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick104 Rnd4 Jake Majors
They read the board right and Jake Majors was the payoff at Round 4, Pick 3. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick118 Rnd4 Rylie Mills
Rylie Mills in the 118th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick148 Rnd5 Danny Stutsman
You do not let a linebacker like Danny Stutsman reach the 148th overall pick and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick168 Rnd5 Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton in slot 168 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick170 Rnd5 Brady Cook
This one needs a full-page explanation: Brady Cook in No. 170, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick171 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Xavier Nwankpa well ahead of where he belonged. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick187 Rnd6 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at the Round 6 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick209 Rnd6 Will Sheppard
Will Sheppard in pick 209 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick247 Rnd7 Jamaree Caldwell
Jamaree Caldwell in Round 7, Pick 31 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
