Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D
ValueC NeedB+ TradesF FutureA+
The Cowboys got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D.

Nobody else had Trey Moore anywhere near the 120th pick. The Cowboys did, by 137 spots, and that gap is the whole story. The math is unkind, and the D follows.

Skattebo at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.

Spending an early pick on safety with cornerback and tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Tre Harris
In pick No. 12 they get a weapon on the perimeter, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick22 Rnd1 Aireontae Ersery
In the 22nd pick they get a building block for the line, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick44 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori in No. 44 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick53 Rnd2 Donovan Jackson
A real head-scratcher, Donovan Jackson in the Round 2 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick74 Rnd3 Kyle McCord
A wild overpay on Kyle McCord in the 74th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick76 Rnd3 Xavier Watts
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Xavier Watts in slot 76 leaves cornerback and tight end for later.
Pick84 Rnd3 Tez Johnson
A premium they did not need to pay, Tez Johnson a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick110 Rnd4 Riley Leonard
A big swing on Riley Leonard at the Round 4 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
Pick120 Rnd4 Trey Moore
They reached a country mile for Trey Moore at pick No. 120, and the board is aghast. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick148 Rnd5 Nicholas Singleton
A running back of that caliber at pick 148 is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
Pick168 Rnd5 Zane Durant
Zane Durant at No. 168 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick170 Rnd5 Chris Paul Jr.
They robbed the room for Chris Paul Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick171 Rnd5 Theo Wease Jr.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Theo Wease Jr. in the 171st pick, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick187 Rnd6 Lander Barton
Circle this one: Lander Barton at Round 6, Pick 12 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick209 Rnd6 Cam Skattebo
The board fumbled Cam Skattebo all the way to the 209th pick, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick247 Rnd7 Jamaree Caldwell
Jamaree Caldwell in pick 247 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
