Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureA+
Quarterback settled, Ward in the fold, and a D for the Cowboys.

There is reaching, and then there is Jamaree Caldwell at Round 6, Pick 34. The Cowboys jumped the board by 86 and dared it to prove them wrong. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.

The Judkins value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.

Everything downstream of Cam Ward depends on Cam Ward, and the building knows it. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback.

It is not that Winston Jr. is a bad player; it is that the Cowboys had louder needs to answer first.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Cam Ward
In No. 3 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value.
Pick12 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Donovan Jackson
A real head-scratcher, Donovan Jackson in the Round 2 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick44 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori at pick 44 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick65 Rnd3 Xavier Restrepo
Xavier Restrepo at the 65th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick74 Rnd3 Blake Miller
They left a pile of value on the table to take Blake Miller this early at the 74th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick76 Rnd3 Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams at pick 76 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick103 Rnd4 Rylie Mills
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Rylie Mills well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick109 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Kevin Winston Jr. adds a safety and leaves cornerback and tight end untouched.
Pick148 Rnd5 Danny Stutsman
Taking Danny Stutsman in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick168 Rnd5 Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins in pick No. 168 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick170 Rnd5 Brady Cook
A big swing on Brady Cook at Round 5, Pick 33, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick173 Rnd5 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at the 173rd pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Pick186 Rnd6 DJ Campbell
This one needs a full-page explanation: DJ Campbell in No. 186, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick209 Rnd6 Jamaree Caldwell
Jamaree Caldwell in pick No. 209 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick247 Rnd7 Jack Kiser
Steal is underselling it; Jack Kiser at Round 7, Pick 31 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
