TradesA+
FutureA+
A passer of the future in Nix, and a A-, for the Patriots. After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Bo Nix is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The Mayes pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Bo Nix and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
JC Latham
JC Latham in No. 15 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick17
Rnd1
Bo Nix
In slot 17 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Josh Newton
Josh Newton at the Round 2 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick39
Rnd2
Troy Franklin
Troy Franklin at the 39th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick67
Rnd3
Malachi Corley
Fair-plus on Malachi Corley, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick81
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
No drama and no debate, TreVeyon Henderson went about where he belonged in the 81st pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick100
Rnd3
Audric Estime
They paid sticker price for Audric Estime in pick No. 100, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick104
Rnd4
Payton Wilson
They did well to land Payton Wilson in Round 4, Pick 4, just ahead of his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick107
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher slipping to No. 107 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick147
Rnd5
Dallin Holker
They paid a round early for Dallin Holker in pick 147, more than the board wanted. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick181
Rnd6
Moose Muhammad III
Circle this one: Moose Muhammad III at pick No. 181 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick190
Rnd6
BJ Mayes
Steal is underselling it; BJ Mayes at the 190th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick224
Rnd7
Erick All
They took Erick All at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick225
Rnd7
Tyler Batty
Good price on Tyler Batty in slot 225, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
