Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall D+
ValueB- NeedA- TradesF FutureC-
The Steelers drew a line under the quarterback search with Ward: D+.

Nobody else had Micah Morris anywhere near No. 229. The Steelers did, by 39 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A D+ that will need time and luck to look better.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Cam Ward gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Barham.

For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and safety is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Cam Ward
In slot 4 they get a long-term answer under center. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick65 Rnd3 Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins at the 65th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick83 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
Dylan Sampson at No. 83 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick121 Rnd4 Jabbar Muhammad
A premium they did not need to pay, Jabbar Muhammad a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick161 Rnd5 Ricky White III
Ricky White III at Round 5, Pick 24 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
Pick223 Rnd7 Nick Nash
This one needs a full-page explanation: Nick Nash in pick 223, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
Pick229 Rnd7 Micah Morris
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Micah Morris. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick245 Rnd7 Jaishawn Barham
Taking Jaishawn Barham in Round 7, Pick 29 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
