Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D+
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureA+
The Cowboys lost the trade table, and the D+ tells the story.

The Trey Moore pick is the one that will follow the Cowboys into the fall. They took him 158 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. The math is unkind, and the D+ follows.

However the rest shakes out, Judkins at that price is a win they earned. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The Winston Jr. pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with cornerback and tight end still on the board.

That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick15 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In slot 15 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick36 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
The board had Emeka Egbuka higher than Round 2, Pick 4, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick46 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
A safety of that caliber at pick 46 is the definition of value, full stop. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick67 Rnd3 Dillon Gabriel
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Dillon Gabriel well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick72 Rnd3 Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins at the 72nd overall pick is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick77 Rnd3 Jake Majors
Jake Majors at pick 77 is a conviction pick that outran the value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick93 Rnd3 Trey Moore
This one needs a full-page explanation: Trey Moore in No. 93, miles early. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick103 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Kevin Winston Jr. in pick No. 103 leaves cornerback and tight end for later.
Pick113 Rnd4 Nicholas Singleton
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Nicholas Singleton at Round 4, Pick 12. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick152 Rnd5 Danny Stutsman
They barely believed it either: Danny Stutsman still on the board at the Round 5 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick168 Rnd5 Shemar Turner
Shemar Turner at the 168th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick170 Rnd5 Quinshon Judkins
Taking Quinshon Judkins in slot 170 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
Pick171 Rnd5 Brady Cook
Brady Cook at the 171st pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick190 Rnd6 Tonka Hemingway
Tonka Hemingway at the 190th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick209 Rnd6 Raheim Sanders
Raheim Sanders at pick No. 209 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick248 Rnd7 Shilo Sanders
They read the board right and Shilo Sanders was the payoff at the Round 7 slot. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
