Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Broncos finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D-.

Somebody took the Broncos to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.

Caleb Williams is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up. They will need Weaver to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

Landing Mayes that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In the 3rd overall pick they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul at the 53rd pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It fills a real need, too.
Pick113 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
By-the-book stuff, Darius Robinson at Round 4, Pick 13 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick128 Rnd4 Kris Abrams-Draine
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kris Abrams-Draine at slot 128. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick149 Rnd5 Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson at pick No. 149 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick206 Rnd6 J.J. Weaver
J.J. Weaver at the Round 6 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick233 Rnd7 Zion Logue
They liked Zion Logue enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 233. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick241 Rnd7 BJ Mayes
BJ Mayes at No. 241 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
