Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Commanders and Fortune: B-.

You could see the war room lean forward. O'Donnell Fortune at the Round 7 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

The Webb pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.

Quantity was the play, for better or worse.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 Nick Emmanwori
In No. 29 they get a ballhawk on the back end, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
Pick62 Rnd2 TreVeyon Henderson
Good price on TreVeyon Henderson in the 62nd pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
Pick130 Rnd4 Ty Robinson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ty Robinson well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick173 Rnd5 Connor Colby
They paid sticker price for Connor Colby in pick No. 173, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick205 Rnd6 Clay Webb
They reached into another round for Clay Webb, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick228 Rnd7 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 228th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick245 Rnd7 O'Donnell Fortune
Somehow O'Donnell Fortune was still sitting there in pick 245, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
