Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall
D-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
The Broncos got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-. The phones were a trap the Broncos kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.
They are betting Whittington proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. It is not that Abrams-Draine is a bad player; it is that the Broncos had louder needs to answer first.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In pick 12 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick56
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
Good price on Patrick Paul in No. 56, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick76
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
A tidy little value on Payton Wilson in pick No. 76, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick87
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
Fair-plus on Mike Sainristil, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick120
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
No drama and no debate, Darius Robinson went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick122
Rnd4
Kris Abrams-Draine
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Kris Abrams-Draine in the 122nd pick leaves tight end and running back for later.
Pick149
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at slot 149 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick233
Rnd7
Zion Logue
The board had cheaper options than Zion Logue at the 233rd overall pick, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick241
Rnd7
Jordan Whittington
Jordan Whittington at slot 241 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
