Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesC+ FutureB-
The Seahawks finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B-.

Some picks age like wine; Maurice Smith at pick No. 222 will need to, sitting 75 spots clear of his grade. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

So much rides on Bo Nix that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The Cowing steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

The linebacker spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Bo Nix
In pick No. 15 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Pick77 Rnd3 Christian Haynes
They paid a round early for Christian Haynes in No. 77, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick90 Rnd3 Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in the 90th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick115 Rnd4 Gabriel Murphy
A premium they did not need to pay, Gabriel Murphy a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick152 Rnd5 Khyree Jackson
Somehow Khyree Jackson was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 16, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick168 Rnd5 Jamari Thrash
By-the-book stuff, Jamari Thrash at pick 168 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick193 Rnd6 Jaylin Simpson
They robbed the room for Jaylin Simpson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick222 Rnd7 Maurice Smith
Maurice Smith at the 222nd overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick236 Rnd7 Jacob Cowing
Jacob Cowing in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
