Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Bears.

For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Bears walked out of the weekend still thin at interior defensive lineman, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

The Hudson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The cost of the Stewart reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
In slot 10 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39 Rnd2 Josaiah Stewart
Josaiah Stewart in Round 2, Pick 7 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick41 Rnd2 Donovan Ezeiruaku
They jumped the gun on Donovan Ezeiruaku, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick72 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
They paid sticker price for Tate Ratledge in pick No. 72, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick148 Rnd5 LeQuint Allen
Quietly one of the better values of the day, LeQuint Allen at the 148th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick233 Rnd7 Kobe Hudson
They let Kobe Hudson come to them and pounced at the 233rd pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick240 Rnd7 Bilhal Kone
No edge and no loss on Bilhal Kone in pick 240; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
