Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The Commanders robbed the room for Clark. Final grade: B-.

You could see the war room lean forward. Bud Clark at the 223rd overall pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. They will need Zuhn III to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

Tight end is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The back end got a real overhaul.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
A reasonable price with a little left over, Caleb Downs in pick No. 7. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick71 Rnd3 Max Klare
Max Klare slid further than he should have, and pick 71 is lovely value for the tight end. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick146 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
A conviction pick on Davison Igbinosun at slot 146 that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick189 Rnd6 Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter at No. 189 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick197 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at the 197th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick223 Rnd7 Bud Clark
Bud Clark in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick226 Rnd7 Pat Coogan
Pat Coogan at Round 7, Pick 10 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
