Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Chiefs robbed the room for Mitchell. Final grade: B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. Adonai Mitchell, the No. 39 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 58.

They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Jordan Morgan
In slot 26 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58 Rnd2 Adonai Mitchell
Steal is underselling it; Adonai Mitchell at pick No. 58 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick89 Rnd3 Braden Fiske
They took Braden Fiske at par in the 89th pick, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick126 Rnd4 Donovan Jackson
A quiet steal in Round 4, Pick 26: Donovan Jackson for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick167 Rnd5 Ben Sinnott
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ben Sinnott at pick 167. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick171 Rnd5 Chau Smith-Wade
A reasonable price with a little left over, Chau Smith-Wade in the Round 5 slot. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick175 Rnd5 Ainias Smith
You do not let a wide receiver like Ainias Smith reach the 175th overall pick and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick204 Rnd6 Jase McClellan
A tidy little value on Jase McClellan in No. 204, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick247 Rnd7 Eric Gentry
Eric Gentry in the 247th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
