Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The 49ers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-.

The 49ers lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.

The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. However the rest shakes out, Neal at that price is a win they earned. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.

A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Caleb Banks
In slot 27 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick58 Rnd2 Michael Taaffe
Nothing to complain about; Michael Taaffe went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick67 Rnd3 Max Klare
Nice patience on Max Klare, who had no business lasting to Round 3, Pick 3. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick92 Rnd3 Julian Neal
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Julian Neal at pick No. 92 is the proof. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick127 Rnd4 Mike Washington Jr.
Mike Washington Jr. in the 127th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick133 Rnd4 Kage Casey
Kage Casey at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick138 Rnd4 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
They let Ar'maj Reed-Adams come to them and pounced at pick 138. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick159 Rnd5 Chase Roberts
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Chase Roberts in the 159th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick171 Rnd5 Eric McAlister
No edge and no loss on Eric McAlister in pick No. 171; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick224 Rnd7 Joey Aguilar
The board had Joey Aguilar higher than the 224th pick, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
