FutureC-
Nobody dealt better than the Cowboys this weekend: B. Some picks age like wine; Demon Clowney at the 225th pick will need to, sitting 98 spots clear of his grade. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Spending an early pick on edge rusher with quarterback and tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. Landing Allen that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In pick 12 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick30
Rnd1
Anthony Hill Jr.
In slot 30 they get a green-dot type in the middle. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick46
Rnd2
Akheem Mesidor
They paid up for Akheem Mesidor at the 46th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick72
Rnd3
Jadarian Price
A tidy bit of business in No. 72, where Jadarian Price graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Pick77
Rnd3
Chase Bisontis
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Chase Bisontis well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick94
Rnd3
Skyler Gill-Howard
Skyler Gill-Howard at the 94th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick110
Rnd4
David Oke
They left a pile of value on the table to take David Oke this early at the Round 4 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick112
Rnd4
Deion Burks
The board had Deion Burks higher than pick 112, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick116
Rnd4
Kaytron Allen
You do not let a running back like Kaytron Allen reach the 116th pick and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick132
Rnd4
Trey Moore
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went edge rusher with Trey Moore while clear needs at quarterback and tight end sat open.
Pick177
Rnd5
Patrick Payton
Patrick Payton at No. 177 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick211
Rnd6
Jerry Wilson
Jerry Wilson at Round 6, Pick 32 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick215
Rnd6
Dijon Johnson
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dijon Johnson. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick221
Rnd7
Kamran James
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kamran James. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick225
Rnd7
Demon Clowney
Demon Clowney in No. 225 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick247
Rnd7
Mitchell Melton
Mitchell Melton at the 247th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick257
Rnd7
Damari Brown
Damari Brown in pick 257 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
