Draft Grade — Bills

Larceny in pick No. 159 lands the Bills a B, Melton and all.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bills were there to profit. Max Melton, the No. 112 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 159. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Ford reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The roster is better shaped than it was, with linebacker chief among the fixes.

The dealing was even money, start to finish.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Tyler Nubin
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get an enforcer at safety at fair value.
Pick60 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
They paid sticker price for Zach Frazier in the 60th overall pick, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick93 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
They robbed the room for Cooper Beebe here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick99 Rnd3 Jamari Thrash
Jamari Thrash at the 99th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick129 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
By-the-book stuff, Tommy Eichenberg at slot 129 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick159 Rnd5 Max Melton
Max Melton in pick No. 159 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick162 Rnd5 Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford in pick 162 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick197 Rnd6 Christian Jones
They went early on Christian Jones in the Round 6 slot, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick202 Rnd6 De'Corian Clark
A reach on De'Corian Clark in the Round 6 slot; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick206 Rnd6 Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley at pick 206 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick246 Rnd7 Mark Perry
Mark Perry at the 246th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
