Powerful DRAFTING FOR THETexans

Draft Grade — Texans

FutureD-
The Texans got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Texans spent pick No. 128 on Myles Cole, a name most had 95 spots down the list. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Getting Coleman where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They will answer for taking cornerback early while quarterback went begging.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Byron Murphy II
In slot 23 they get an anchor for the defensive front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick24
Rnd1
JC Latham
In the 24th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Terrion Arnold
Terrion Arnold is a better player than Round 2, Pick 9 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick58
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
A slide stopped in the 58th overall pick, with Payton Wilson worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick59
Rnd2
Braden Fiske
They did well to land Braden Fiske in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick86
Rnd3
Max Melton
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback to take Max Melton, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick87
Rnd3
Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman in the 87th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick124
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
Isaac Guerendo slid further than he should have, and pick No. 124 is lovely value for the running back. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick128
Rnd4
Myles Cole
They talked themselves into Myles Cole at No. 128, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick236
Rnd7
Tanner McLachlan
Value with a capital V on Tanner McLachlan in slot 236, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick245
Rnd7
Tyler Owens
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tyler Owens at the Round 7 slot is the proof. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick250
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
Edefuan Ulofoshio at pick 250 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
