Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureD-
Nobody dealt better than the Texans this weekend: B.

The Texans torched the value chart for Tanner McLachlan, taking him 61 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Carson. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

With edge rusher and quarterback unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the 23rd overall pick they get protection for the quarterback, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick25 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
A tidy bit of business in slot 25, where Rome Odunze graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick58 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
A clean, defensible pick in pick 58 with a little surplus value in Ja'Tavion Sanders. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick59 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick60 Rnd2 Calen Bullock
Value with a capital V on Calen Bullock in Round 2, Pick 28, a genuine coup. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick86 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Leonard Taylor III. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick124 Rnd4 Caelen Carson
They will replay Caelen Carson at pick 124 for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick128 Rnd4 Renardo Green
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Renardo Green at safety with edge rusher and quarterback open.
Pick236 Rnd7 De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark at No. 236 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick245 Rnd7 Blake Watson
Blake Watson in the 245th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick250 Rnd7 Tanner McLachlan
Tanner McLachlan in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
