The Texans bled value on every deal, hence the D.

The war room fell hard for Sione Vaki, and it showed at pick No. 128: 40 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. It is not that Green is a bad player; it is that the Texans had louder needs to answer first. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through offensive lineman.

They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
