Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB+
The Cowboys robbed the room for Jackson. Final grade: B+.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Domani Jackson tumbling to the Cowboys in Round 5, Pick 39 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.

They will need Payton to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. With quarterback, running back and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
They did well to land Arvell Reese in pick No. 20, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick31 Rnd1 Sonny Styles
In the 31st overall pick they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman in pick 38 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick106 Rnd4 Genesis Smith
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Genesis Smith in No. 106 leaves quarterback, running back and other spots for later.
Pick112 Rnd4 Akheem Mesidor
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Akheem Mesidor. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick125 Rnd4 Chris Johnson
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Chris Johnson. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick150 Rnd5 Sammy Omosigho
A straight-up fair deal on Sammy Omosigho at slot 150, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick177 Rnd5 Domani Jackson
A cornerback of that caliber at the 177th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick181 Rnd5 Patrick Payton
A wild overpay on Patrick Payton in Round 5, Pick 43, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick221 Rnd7 Kevin Coleman Jr.
Kevin Coleman Jr. in the 221st overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick225 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
They liked Trey Zuhn III enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 7 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
