Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Dolphins. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Dolphins took Connor Colby a full 58 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Stout at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Armand Membou
They paid a round early for Armand Membou in the Round 1 slot, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick48
Rnd2
Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson in the 48th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick98
Rnd3
Riley Leonard
A straight-up fair deal on Riley Leonard at pick No. 98, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick116
Rnd4
Connor Colby
They reached a country mile for Connor Colby at pick 116, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick135
Rnd4
Darius Alexander
The board had Darius Alexander higher than the 135th overall pick, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick150
Rnd5
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. at Round 5, Pick 12 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick155
Rnd5
Jacob Parrish
Steal is underselling it; Jacob Parrish at Round 5, Pick 17 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick224
Rnd7
Upton Stout
They robbed the room for Upton Stout here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick231
Rnd7
Theo Wease Jr.
Theo Wease Jr. in No. 231 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick253
Rnd7
Kai Kroeger
A reach for Kai Kroeger in slot 253; a little patience would have been rewarded. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick256
Rnd7
Moliki Matavao
By-the-book stuff, Moliki Matavao at the 256th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
