There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took John Williams a full 29 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The McMillan pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
