Powerful DRAFTING FOR THETexans

TradesA+
FutureD-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Texans a B-. Nobody else had De'Corian Clark anywhere near slot 164. The Texans did, by 36 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They banked enough surplus on Robinson to cover a lot of smaller sins. The offensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Terrion Arnold
In pick 23 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick59
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
Somehow Chop Robinson was still sitting there in pick No. 59, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick60
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
No edge and no loss on T'Vondre Sweat in slot 60; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick61
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
Fair-plus on Chris Braswell, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick73
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
They liked Roman Wilson enough to skip the value, taking him in the 73rd overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick85
Rnd3
Marist Liufau
Marist Liufau at Round 3, Pick 22 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick92
Rnd3
Trey Benson
They will replay Trey Benson at slot 92 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick123
Rnd4
Malik Mustapha
Malik Mustapha at pick No. 123 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick127
Rnd4
Luke McCaffrey
They paid up for Luke McCaffrey at the 127th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick164
Rnd5
De'Corian Clark
A swing that ignored the value entirely, De'Corian Clark well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick239
Rnd7
Taulia Tagovailoa
A slide stopped in Round 7, Pick 19, with Taulia Tagovailoa worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick248
Rnd7
Tanner McLachlan
Tanner McLachlan at the 248th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
