Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall
D-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
The Broncos lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story. The Broncos torched the value chart for Deven Eastern, taking him 40 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Trost pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
They left with linebacker solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick34
Rnd2
Gennings Dunker
They jumped the gun on Gennings Dunker, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick56
Rnd2
Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick64
Rnd2
Jadarian Price
They did well to land Jadarian Price in the 64th pick, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick119
Rnd4
Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp at pick 119 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick173
Rnd5
Bryce Boettcher
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bryce Boettcher. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick211
Rnd6
Keagen Trost
You do not let an offensive lineman like Keagen Trost reach No. 211 and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick220
Rnd7
Thaddeus Dixon
They paid a round early for Thaddeus Dixon in the 220th pick, more than the board wanted. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick246
Rnd7
Deven Eastern
Deven Eastern in Round 7, Pick 30 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick256
Rnd7
Eli Heidenreich
Nothing to complain about; Eli Heidenreich went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick257
Rnd7
Luke Altmyer
A reach on Luke Altmyer in slot 257; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
