AstroWorldSecurity DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Texans did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. Every other box got a look, but edge rusher did not. The Texans will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Golden. They will need Skattebo to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a go-to option on the outside, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick58
Rnd2
Harold Fannin Jr.
Harold Fannin Jr. at the 58th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick79
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at pick No. 79 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick89
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
A clean, defensible pick in pick 89 with a little surplus value in Donovan Jackson. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick166
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues at slot 166 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick236
Rnd7
John Williams
By-the-book stuff, John Williams at the Round 7 slot squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick241
Rnd7
Maxen Hook
They paid up for Maxen Hook at No. 241 when waiting would have done the job. A minor need, but a need all the same.
