RB DRAFTING FOR THECardinals
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Cardinals, and a B- to prove it. Nobody else had Blake Corum anywhere near the 21st overall pick. The Cardinals did, by 50 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Pritchett. The DeJean pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at tight end, interior defensive lineman and other spots.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In the 2nd pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick21
Rnd1
Blake Corum
In the 21st overall pick they get a lead back with juice, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson at Round 2, Pick 2 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick66
Rnd3
Denzel Burke
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Denzel Burke at pick 66. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick70
Rnd3
Kris Jenkins
Kris Jenkins in slot 70 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick85
Rnd3
Cooper DeJean
Of all the spots to shop, they chose defensive back. Cooper DeJean in pick No. 85 leaves tight end, interior defensive lineman and other spots for later.
Pick102
Rnd4
Jalen McMillan
They liked Jalen McMillan enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 102. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick133
Rnd4
Max Melton
A want over a need in the 133rd overall pick: Max Melton adds a defensive back while tight end, interior defensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick139
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
Fair-plus on Joe Milton III, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick169
Rnd5
Nehemiah Pritchett
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Nehemiah Pritchett in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick198
Rnd6
Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier at pick 198 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick223
Rnd7
Rasheen Ali
Rasheen Ali at Round 7, Pick 3 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick226
Rnd7
Andrew Raym
The board had cheaper options than Andrew Raym at the 226th pick, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
