Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the 49ers.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Tyler Shough in the 254th overall pick, a good 193 spots before the room expected him.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Carter. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Mason Graham
In pick No. 15 they get a run-stuffing presence up front, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick46 Rnd2 Kyle Kennard
A real head-scratcher, Kyle Kennard in the 46th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick77 Rnd3 Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius in Round 3, Pick 13 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick100 Rnd3 Luke Kandra
A conviction pick on Luke Kandra at pick 100 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick113 Rnd4 Mason Taylor
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Mason Taylor at the Round 4 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick137 Rnd4 Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter at the 137th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
Pick191 Rnd6 Theo Wease Jr.
Theo Wease Jr. at slot 191 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick233 Rnd7 Kamren Fabiculanan
Value said wait; Kamren Fabiculanan in the 233rd overall pick says they were not listening. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick248 Rnd7 Bryce Foster
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Bryce Foster in Round 7, Pick 34, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick249 Rnd7 Fred Davis
This one needs a full-page explanation: Fred Davis in the 249th pick, miles early. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick254 Rnd7 Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough at pick No. 254 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
