Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

ValueB-

FutureD-
The Bears found their guy under center in Maye: F. The Bears lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. A F, plain and simple.
The whole projection now runs through Drake Maye; hit there and everything else looks smarter. Reiman has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
They will answer for taking safety early while cornerback went begging. The Ulofoshio pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In the 4th overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick18
Rnd1
Troy Fautanu
In No. 18 they get a building block for the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick20
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In the Round 1 slot they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick21
Rnd1
Ladd McConkey
Ladd McConkey at pick No. 21 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick49
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick 49 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick50
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
They jumped the gun on Cooper Beebe, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick51
Rnd2
Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard in Round 2, Pick 19 is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick53
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
They paid up for T'Vondre Sweat at the 53rd pick when waiting would have done the job. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick59
Rnd2
Junior Colson
Nice patience on Junior Colson, who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. It fills a real need, too.
Pick66
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 2, where Christian Haynes graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick68
Rnd3
Roger Rosengarten
They talked themselves into Roger Rosengarten at pick No. 68, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick75
Rnd3
Ruke Orhorhoro
A slide stopped in slot 75, with Ruke Orhorhoro worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick80
Rnd3
Calen Bullock
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Calen Bullock adds a safety and leaves cornerback untouched.
Pick90
Rnd3
Edgerrin Cooper
You do not let a linebacker like Edgerrin Cooper reach the 90th pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick100
Rnd3
Cade Stover
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Cade Stover in pick 100, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick118
Rnd4
Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in the 118th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick121
Rnd4
Trey Benson
Taking Trey Benson in Round 4, Pick 21 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick122
Rnd4
MarShawn Lloyd
They barely believed it either: MarShawn Lloyd still on the board at No. 122. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick123
Rnd4
Bucky Irving
They paid a round early for Bucky Irving in slot 123, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick131
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
Isaac Guerendo at the 131st overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick133
Rnd4
Ray Davis
Ray Davis at pick No. 133 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick135
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
They bypassed pressing needs at cornerback to take Ben Sinnott, a tight end that was not the priority.
Pick136
Rnd4
Tip Reiman
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Tip Reiman at tight end with cornerback open.
Pick188
Rnd6
Dallin Holker
They will replay Dallin Holker at pick 188 for years; that is how good the value is. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick211
Rnd6
Bub Means
Nothing to complain about; Bub Means went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick248
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
Edefuan Ulofoshio in the 248th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
