Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Browns a B-.

Of all the ways to open, the Browns chose the head-scratcher, spending the Round 3 slot on Barrett Carter with quarterback, tight end and other spots still wide open.

The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. However the rest shakes out, Sauls at that price is a win they earned.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Travis Hunter
In No. 2 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at slot 33 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick67 Rnd3 Elic Ayomanor
A straight-up fair deal on Elic Ayomanor at Round 3, Pick 3, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick94 Rnd3 Barrett Carter
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Barrett Carter adds a linebacker and leaves quarterback, tight end and other spots untouched.
Pick104 Rnd4 Dylan Fairchild
No drama and no debate, Dylan Fairchild went about where he belonged in the 104th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick179 Rnd6 Ben Sauls
Value with a capital V on Ben Sauls in No. 179, a genuine coup. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick192 Rnd6 Vernon Broughton
Good price on Vernon Broughton in the Round 6 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick200 Rnd6 KeAndre Lambert-Smith
KeAndre Lambert-Smith in the 200th pick is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick216 Rnd6 Jalen McLeod
No edge and no loss on Jalen McLeod in pick No. 216; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick255 Rnd7 Jamon Dumas-Johnson
By-the-book stuff, Jamon Dumas-Johnson at the 255th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
