The Colts cashed the board's mistake on Taylor: B. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Colts were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Taylor at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
It is not that Delane is a bad player; it is that the Colts had louder needs to answer first.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Anthony Hill Jr.
In slot 8 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick54
Rnd2
Chandler Rivers
The board had cheaper options than Chandler Rivers at Round 2, Pick 22, and it noticed. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick72
Rnd3
Mansoor Delane
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Mansoor Delane adds a cornerback and leaves wide receiver, offensive lineman and other spots untouched.
Pick108
Rnd4
Jack Endries
Jack Endries at the 108th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick147
Rnd5
Darius Taylor
A running back of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick161
Rnd5
Jackson Arnold
Nice patience on Jackson Arnold, who had no business lasting to pick 161. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
